Not only has it been revealed that Assassin’s Creed 3 may be officially unveiled before the press on March 5, it appears as though the game’s setting has been outed too.
As one of the biggest franchises in gaming, part of the principal appeal of the Assassin’s Creed series has always been its time-travel setting (or its ‘accessing genetic memory of ancestors’ if you want to get technical), with players speculating where the franchise would take them next.
In the original game, players inhabited assassin Altair in the Third Crusade, while a trilogy was formed around Assassin’s Creed 2’s protagonist Ezio Auditore during Renaissance-era locales such as Florence, Rome and Constantinople. With the third canon title set for launch later this year, gamers have speculated whether players would control a new character in speculated historical eras such as far-flung as ancient Egypt, Victorian London or perhaps even WWII.
However, according to a leaked image that was sent to gaming site Kotaku, it appears as though the latest in Ubisoft’s series will take players to the American Revolution.
The below image was sent to the site via a Best Buy employee and features a cowled figure holding a tomahawk in one hand and a gun in the other behind a 12-star ‘Betsy Ross’ American flag, which imply that the game takes place in the late 18th century.
In addition to the image, the Best Buy worker who sent on the shot informed the site that the game would be officially unveiled on March 5, with pre-order bonuses also announced. A further image from Game Informer appears to show the new protagonist stood next to what appear to be George Washington.
Although unconfirmed, the image appears legit and after taking a closer look at the character, we wouldn’t be surprised if Ubisoft announce in the coming days that the next protagonist in the Assassin’s Creed series is also Native American.
