For the last few years, HTC’s great range of phones have come with a Beats sound system, but those days may be numbered

HTC and Beats have been in partnership since 2011 when the phone manufacturer bought a 51% stake in Beats, but later sold half of that back to Dre’s company in 2012, according to Mashable. However, it seems that Beats are ready to end that partnership and move in a new direction.

According to what the sources at the Wall Street Journal are saying, Beats want to expand outside the headphone market into speakers, in-car audio systems, consumer electronics as well as an online streaming music service, and plan to buy the rest of HTC’s stake back from them to look for a new investor with fresh funds to help make that happen.

It was rumoured that the two companies had clashed on what would be the best strategy moving forward, and Beats see themselves as better off without HTC attached. Personally, we enjoyed the two working together, even if it was a bit of a gimmick, the sound was still pretty darn good to us and was a nice little feature on an already solid range of phones.
