If you have an annoying, show-off friend on Facebook then you’ll want to show them this

We always knew it.

Facebook can be a wonderful thing because it helps you keep in touch with friends that live abroad, provides you with the latest JOE news and it lets you, ahem, observe so many people.

We know you do.

One of the worst things about social media though is the constant bragging, boasting and general ‘look at me’ gobshite behaviour that some people constantly post.

We feel your pain because we all have ‘that’ friend.

It seems that all this attention-seeking behaviour is just your friend’s way of asking for help though, according to research at Brunel University London.

A recent study has shown that people who frequently post statuses about their own accomplishments are typically narcissists.

While there’s an element of ‘you don’t say’ about this news, we were delighted to learn that from the 555 people surveyed that;

1) People with low self-esteem were prone to frequently post more status updates about their current romantic partner.

2) Narcissists regularly updated their Facebook pages about their achievements due to a need for validation and attention.

3) These people that tend to think more about themselves are also more frequent ‘posters’ regarding diet and exercise. Basically, your fried who goes to the gym and tells everyone is really just a big show-off.

Psychology lecturer Dr Tara Marshall says, “Greater awareness of how one’s status updates might be perceived by friends could help people to avoid topics that annoy more than they entertain.”

In a nutshell, stop talking about yourself. And cats. No more cats.
