Having suffered an already famous backlash for its controversial Mass Effect 3 ending, BioWare has announced the release date of its “Extended Cut” downloadable content.
The controversial original ending, which led to a fan petition that raised over $80,000 for a children’s charity, caused widespread outrage among the series’ biggest fans for what was perceived to be a short-sighted and abrupt storytelling approach.
Coming this Tuesday to the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, the add-on will “expand upon the events at the end of” BioWare’s RPG sequel, “through additional cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes.”
“To experience the Extended Cut, load a save game from before the attack on the Cerberus Base and play through to the end of the game,” explains BioWare on the official site for Mass Effect 3.
“The Extended Cut endings will differ depending on choices made throughout the Mass Effect series, so multiple playthroughs with a variety of different decisions will be required to experience the variety of possibilities offered by the new content.”
“We are all incredibly proud of Mass Effect 3 and the work done by Casey Hudson and team,”claimed BioWare boss Ray Muzyka for the game’s initial announcement. “Since launch, we have had time to listen to the feedback from our most passionate fans and we are responding.
“With the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut we think we have struck a good balance in delivering the answers players are looking for while maintaining the team’s artistic vision for the end of this story arc in the Mass Effect universe.”
