Capcom have not only released a lengthy debut trailer for the eagerly anticipated Resident Evil 6 tonight, they’ve even announced the worldwide release date. Nice going, guys.
While the existence of the latest installment in the trans-media survival horror franchise has been an open recent in recent months, we’re stunned by just how much Capcom have revealed about Resident Evil 6.
For one thing, the game will hit the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 20, while Resident Evil heroes Leon Kennedy and Chris Redfield will each star in separate portions of the game.
Set ten years after the events of Resident Evil 2, the game finds Leon dealing with a zombie outbreak in a fictional US town, while Chris has problems of his own in a Chinese metropolis. Intriguingly, the debut trailer also showcases an unnamed playable character whose blood appears to hold the antidote to the zombie catastrophe.
“Resident Evil 6 represents a giant stride forward in the evolution of the series,” added Capcom R&D boss Katsuhiko Ichii on the company’s Unity Blog, adding that the play styles offer what he described as “dramatic horror”.
“The development team, led by Hiroyuki Kobayashi, is working tirelessly to deliver the most impressive Resident Evil title ever both in terms of scope and production values. We are all genuinely excited by the title and cannot wait to share it with the world.”
That’s all we’ve got for now but in other Resident Evil news, the trailer for this month’s upcoming 3DS release, Resident Evil: Revelations, is available from 3DS eShop today. Be sure to look out for our review of the handheld title in a fortnight.
