WhatsApp’s quest for world domination continues unabated.
Someone once said that assumption is the mother of all f**k-ups but we think we’re safe in assuming that the majority of smartphone users would use WhatsApp almost every day.
The growth of the instant messaging app since its release in 2009 has been huge, but its rise in popularity in 2015 alone has been stratospheric, with almost 100 million new users since January.
CEO and founder of WhatsApp Jan Koum revealed on his Facebook page over the weekend that it is now serving 800 million active monthly users, an increase of 100 million since January and an increase of a whopping 350 million users since it was acquired by Facebook in February 2014 for $19 billion.
This time last year, WhatsApp revealed that it handles 64 billion messages A DAY, so considering the increase in users since then, we reckon it must be up on at least 100 billion at this stage.
So. Many. Emojis.
