WhatsApp and Snapchat could be banned under new UK surveillance laws

Security is the issue.

British PM David Cameron says if he’s re-elected he’ll stop the use of all communication methods who use encryption, which includes Snapchat and WhatsApp.

According to the Independent, Cameron wants to block the use of apps like those under new surveillance laws in the UK following the shootings in Paris last week.

The encryption in apps like WhatsApp and Snapchat stops the companies who produces the apps from accessing the information being passed around on them.

Here’s Cameron’s comment about the current laws which allow the use of encrypted technology: “Should we allow safe spaces for terrorists to talk to each other?”.

Apple’s iMessage and Facetime also use encrypted technology, so basically everything we all use to contact people these days. Great.
