Have you always wanted to see your name and content as part of a mobile phone app?
Good news for you then if you happen to be a Nokia user: last week the Ovi Publish team went live with a new online tool called the Ovi App Wizard, which promises to be the “fastest and easiest way to create apps” on any mobile device.
The Ovi App Wizard allows publishers (which would mean you) mobilise their own content within minutes with just a few clicks and simple instructions. RSS and Atom feeds for video, audio, text and images for blogs, YouTube, Twitter and news are all compatible with the App Wizard and are formatted into a WRT or Java application. This ensures that your finished app delivers fresh content to your Nokia device every time the feed is updated.
All you need to do is plug in your Twitter feed, Facebook account or RSS feed, upload your logo and you can become an app developer in less than 24 hours – while the actual creation of your app should take around five minutes.
The Ovi App Wizard is absolutely free of charge, and requires no registration fees. More importantly, it’s open to anyone – businesses and individuals. Publishers can choose to monetize their content by enabling an optional advertising feature in the tool, or these users can instead avail of a free, ad-supported app instead.
Your app creation may take up to a day, but once your app is ready to go, it will appear on the Ovi store, which reaches more than 180 countries around the world. While some may accuse the App Wizard as little more than a RSS feed generator in practice, we at JOE think this is agreat step from Nokia in allowing its users to take the first leap into the growing world of app creation.
