A minor match in Down ended in tragedy, when 16-year-old footballer died on the pitch.
Patrick Dinsmore collapsed during a minor football match between St. Peter’s, Warrenpoint and St. Bronagh’s in Rostrevor, Co. Down.
A doctor and nurse tried in vain for over 30 minutes to revive him using a defibrillator.
Local SDLP Councillor Michael Carr said of the tragedy, “It’s every parent’s worst nightmare. This really is a devastating, utterly devastating, death of a fine young man.
“The local area is finding it hard to come to terms with it as the young lad was so well thought of and was taking part in something he loved, representing his local community.”
Dinsmore was due to celebrate his 17th birthday tomorrow.
