More than 45,000 people from all over the world descended on the small Valencian town of Buno, Spain to participate in this year’s La Tomatina festival, with the local town hall estimating that over 100 tons of rotten and over-ripe tomatoes were thrown.
Some 40,000 Spaniards gathered to create a ‘human gazpacho,’ hurling some 100,000 kilograms (220,000 pounds) of tomatoes at one another to mark La Tomatina, surely one of the world’s messiest festivals.
