Rafa Benitez has denied breaking an agreement not to poach Liverpool players by insisting he is not responsible for signings at Inter.

Benitez signed a written agreement with Liverpool, after being sacked by the Anfield club in June.

“When he left the club,” Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson said, “Rafael Benitez signed an agreement that he would not poach players from Liverpool.

“We haven’t received an offer from any club so this is something obviously going on behind the scenes, with the agent [of Dirk Kuyt] possibly talking to the manager of Inter Milan.”

Benitez has denied trying to make a deal with Dirk Kuyt, however, insisting that any signings the Italian club make are nothing to do with him.

“I am the coach and I cannot sign players – that is for the technical director and the chairman. I am fine like this – I can focus on my work on the pitch and that is all. I am the coach, not the manager.”
