There was mixed fortunes for Irish provinces in pre-season action on Friday night as Leinster suffered a heavy defeat to Leicester Tigers, while Munster stepped up their preparations with a win over Gloucester.

Leinster endured a five-try hammering from the Leicester Tigers and ended up on the wrong side of a 37-14 final score line at Welford Road.

Three tries from the Tuilagi brothers were the highlight of Leicester Tigers’s emphatic victory.

The elder of the two Samoan powerhouses, Alesana, scored one in each half while 20-year-old Manu got on the scoresheet midway through the second.

Tigers pulled away to dominate the second half and record their second successive win over a top Irish province.

Meanwhile, Munster looked in good shape in their 15-10 win over Gloucester at Musgrave Park.

Alan Quinlan and Wian du Preez scored the tries with Paul Warwick adding a conversion and penalty against a full-strength Gloucester side.

Munster open their Magners League campaign against Aironi next week.
