Chelsea maintained their 100 per cent record in the Premier League with a comfortable win over Stoke, while Wigan caused the shock of the day away to Spurs.

Florent Malouda continued his spectacular form this season by putting Chelsea in front in the first half and a Didier Drogba penalty in the second rounded off the 2-0 win. Glenn Whelan went closest to scoring for Stoke when his shot from outside the box rattled off the crossbar.

Wigan, who conceded ten goals in their first two games of the season, managed to come away from White Hart Lane with all three points this afternoon. Hugo Rodallega scored the only goal of the game.

Erratic Blackpool drew 2-2 at home to Fulham. Bobby Zamora put the visitors ahead with the only goal of the first half, however, Blackpool scored twice in five minutes midway through the second half.

Firstly, a John Pantsil own goal levelled matters before debutant Luke Varney put the home side ahead with a quarter of an hour remaining. Dickson Etuhu salvaged a point for the Cottagers late on with his strike.

Andy Carroll equalised for Newcastle United in their 1-1 draw with Wolves at Molineux. Sylvan Ebanks-Blake had put Wolves ahead just before half-time.

Earlier in the day, Andrey Arshavin came to Arsenal’s rescue by scoring the winner in a close encounter with Blackburn at Ewood Park.

The Gunners took the lead through Theo Walcott’s strike after 20 minutes but Mame Biram Diouf equalised seven minutes later when his namesake El-Hadj Diouf provided the crucial pass.

Robin van Persie was forced off the field with an ankle injury after half an hour of the action and the sides remained level at half-time.

Six minutes after the restart Arshavin restored Arsenal’s lead when Cesc Faregas’ shot deflected into his path and allowed him to make it 2-1.

It was Arsenal’s first away win since March.
