A clash of colours will mean that both Cork and Down will wear alternate strips for their meeting in the All-Ireland football final next month.
Cork will wear white jerseys with a red trim, while Down’s strip will be mostly gold with a red and black trim after the CCCC decided that a clash of colours could cause confusion amongst the players.
Both counties wore similar strips when the sides met in the All-Ireland semi-final in 1994, from which the Mourne men emerged triumphant. Down wore the same jersey in a meeting with Cork in last year’s All-Ireland under-21 final, while Cork played in their traditional red strip.
This year’s final will be the first time since the 1982 All-Ireland final between Kerry and Offaly that both sides will be forced to wear alternative jerseys.
