Apple has released the latest update of their music store which includes a new social networking function and support for its new range of iPods.
iTunes 10 will be integrated with a social networking feature called Ping. The service allows users to publish their playlist as well as posting updates about themselves and music reviews.
A Twitter-like aspect of Ping also allows users to follow each other as well as artists and bands that have signed up for the service .Musicians will then be able to update fans with details like album launches and upcoming concerts, as well as personal comments and messages.
This service formed a large part of Apple’s special event in San Francisco on Wednesday and Steve Jobs was keen to emphasise that iTunes boasts over 160 million iTunes users that will immediately be able use Ping.
Ping will also be available on all iOS devices such as the iPod Touch, iPad and iPhone and only requires users to activate the service on their computer first.
iTunes 10 can be downloaded free from the Apple site.
(P.S. We got fed up of putting picture after picture of iPhones and the like on the site, hence the picture of a slice of birthday cake at the top of this story)
