03/09 JOE’s Daily Double

JOE

We’re hoping the boys in green can do the business and an Eoin Doyle Gelding can romp home in Kilbeggan for today’s Daily Double.

Domestic racing today is at Kilbeggan and we like the look of an Eoin Doyle gelding in the 5.35 handicap hurdle.

Doyle’s stable have been in tremendous form so far this year and WITHOUT THE BOP has a good chance of continuing that good run today. Without the bop has been in good form of late, winning in Tramore last month and giving a decent performance in a handicap at the same track only three days later. Not many in the 13-strong field have been in flying form of late and we think that with Barry Geraghty on board, Without the Bop can produce the goods.

Take a chance on Without the Bop, the second favourite at 3/1.

Ireland embark on their Euro 2012 qualifying campaign with a trip into the unknown against Armenia this afternoon, eager to erase the hurt that still lingers from the infamous play-off defeat to France nearly a year ago.

Ranked 96 in the world, Armenia are hardly in the upper echelons of European football, but as Portugal, Belgium and even Spain will testify, they’re a tough proposition on home turf. With temperatures likely to be in the mid-thirties and the milky-white Irish players likely to be sweating buckets in the heat in Yerevan, it will be a significant achievement to come away with a win, but it is something we think the boys in green will achieve nonetheless.

In their ill-fated World Cup qualifying campaign, Ireland won four times, but never by more than a single goal. Three of those victories were won a 2-1 scoreline and we think that 15/2 is a cracking price for the same to occur this afternoon.

Show some national pride and back Ireland to win 2-1 at 15/2.

P.S. If you fancy being a tad more ambitious, backing Robbie Keane to score first in a 2-1 Ireland victory will increase the odds to a tempting 25/1.

JOE will be tracking Ireland v Armenia live in our football section from 3pm.
