Real Madrid boss José Mourinho is in the hunt for a new striker, with Emmanuel Adebayor rumoured to be at the top of his wish-list.
Mourinho signed six players during the summer, but no strikers, and with Cristiano Ronaldo injured, the ‘Special One’ has only two fully-fit strikers to choose from – Gonzalo Higuain and Karim Benzema.
“As coaches we’re always unsatisfied, we always want more and for that reason I’m with those who ask for new signings,’ Mourinho told Madrid newspaper AS.
“At Madrid I wanted another striker, Higuain and Benzema are not enough. With another forward, if Benzema or Higuain get injured, I could look at the bench and see solutions.
“I can’t play both of them together because if one gets injured in the fifth minute, I don’t have a replacement.â€
Mourinho is believed to have weighed up bids for both Adebayor and Didier Drogba during the transfer window, but failed to land either player.
While Drogba seems content at Chelsea, however, Adebayor has been unsettled at Manchester City and his place in the starting line-up is under threat following the arrival of Mario Balotelli to boost the multitude of striking options at Eastlands.
Other potential targets for Mourinho include Romelu Lukaku of Anderlecht, Ola Toivonen of PSV Eindhoven and Mario Gomez of Bayern Munich.
