International Rules 2006: The ‘compromise rules’ clashes between the cream of Ireland’s Gaelic footballers and their Aussie Rules counterparts were never the friendliest of encounters, but ugly scenes in Ireland in 2006 led both associations to review whether it was worth continuing.

It was resumed in Australia in 2008 and although Ireland won, it lacked the bite and intensity of other occasions, in particular 2006, which you can see for yourself below.

Barcelona v Athletic Bilbao 1984 Copa del Rey final: In a feisty encounter, a star-studded Barcelona team were beaten by a Bilbao side that weren’t afraid to get their hands dirty. An epic brawl followed the final whistle and the number ten throwing knees and kicks all around the place is none other than Diego Maradona.

Mayo v Meath All-Ireland final replay 1996: Having been clawed back at the death by a strong and powerful Meath side in the first game, Mayo were determined not to be intimidated physically in the replay. Cue one of the biggest GAA brawls ever seen only minutes into the game.

Romanian Rugby fight: The likes of Alan Quinlan and Trevor Brennan are renowned as having a hot head on the pitch, but their antics pale in comparison to the madness (below) that descended on a Romanian rugby pitch.

Ron Artest: The then Indiana Pacers (now LA Lakers) defender lost the plot in November 2004 when hit by a cup of Diet Coke thrown from the crowd by a Detroit Pistons fan. Artest ended up in a brawl with a number of Pistons fans and was subsequently suspended for the rest of the season (73 games + play-offs) for his actions.

Corinthians v Palmeiras: Football played in South America is probably the most expressive and skilful worldwide, but players and fans are prone to losing control from time to time, as occurred in a clash between Brazilian sides Corinthians and Palmeiras a few years back. (Watch out for the guy who jumps down the tunnel for safety after 0:25)

Korean baseball fight: All we can say about this video is that Korean baseball players have an extremely strange way of losing their temper. See for yourself.
