Today’s Daily Double focuses exclusively on domestic sporting events; racing at Down Royal and a top of the table clash in the Airtricity League.

Racing on this side of the pond today is at Down Royal and we’re plumping for a rather wintry-sounding mare in the 7.10 Victoria Square Irresistible Handicap.

ALPINE GLADE comes into this meeting in good form having triumphed over hurdles in Killarney last month. There’s a few in the strong field that will put up to the Willie McCreery trained eight-year old, but with Christopher Hayes at the reins, we think she can do the business today.

Take Alpine Glade to win at 5/1.

In the Airtricity League this evening, St.Patrick’s Athletic host Shamrock Rovers at Richmond Park in a clash that will go a long way to deciding the destiny of the title. The Saints currently lie in second place, seven points adrift of the Hoops and really need a result if they are going to mount a decent challenge.

Pete Mahon’s side are in poor form going into tonight’s clash, however, with only one win in their last five games. Rovers have taken 13 points from a possible 15, however and seem to be peaking at the right time.

The atmosphere will be intimidating at Richmond Park, but we fancy the Hoops to rise above it and edge one step closer to the title.

Back Shamrock Rovers to win at 6/4.

JOE’s Daily Double: Alpine Glade (Down Royal, 7.10 @ 5/1) and Shamrock Rovers to beat St. Patrick’s Athletic @ 6/4.
