Tipperary landed their second All-Ireland title in a week after a comprehensive 25 point defeat of Galway in the under-21 decider at Semple Stadium on Saturday evening.

The build up to the final was dominated by controversy surrounding the decision to play the final in Thurles, but Tipperary, whose team contained eight members of the panel that helped the senior side to the Liam McCarthy Cup against Kilkenny last Sunday, never let it get to them and won easily over a Galway side that never got going.

The Premier County were far superior throughout and the writing was on the wall for Galway early on as Tipp landed goals through Brian O’Meara and John O’Dwyer inside ten minutes and led by 3-7 – 0-9 at the break thanks to another goal from Sean Carey

Patrick Maher and Noel McGrath added further goals for the hosts after the break and the game was over as a contest long before the final whistle, although the margin of victory was slightly harsh on Galway, who were denied goals on numerous occasions by the frame of the goal and some fantastic goalkeeping by Tipperary ‘keeper James Logue.
