A recap of all the goings on in the Gaelic Football world this Sunday, including the tale of one Mayo man who managed to score four goals in seven minutes.
That Mayo man was Danny Kirby, who displayed a ruthlessness not often associated with his county men when sticking four goals past GMIT in Ballinrobe for a personal tally greater than the 0-11 the students could manage on the day in a 4-11 – 0-11 victory for the men in green and red.
Elsewhere in the FBD League, Leitrim scored an impressive victory over Roscommon, while Galway and Sligo were too strong for London and Sligo IT respectively.
Arguably as impressive as Danny Kirby’s four goal haul was the brace struck by Cork’s Colm O’Neill in his first game in ten months following a cruciate knee injury. O’Neill helped the Rebels to a 13-point win on a day when all the games in the McGrath Cup were completely one-sided, with UCC, CIT and Tipperary all recording winning margins of more than ten points.
There was very little competitive fare in the O’Byrne Cup either, with Kildare annihilating Offaly, DCU overcoming Longford by seven points and Meath, for whom the ageless Graham Geraghty made a cameo appearance off the bench, having six points to spare over Louth in Navan.
In the McKenna Cup, Peter Canavan’s Fermanagh can seemingly do no wrong, claiming their second win on the trot with a nine-point victory over Queens. Donegal, on the other hand were defeated by Cavan for their second successive defeat, while Down stuck four goals past Monaghan in an accomplished display at Clones.
