Three laptops were nicked from Eircom’s offices over the Christmas period and now 6,845 Irish people could be at risk of identity theft.
The company revealed today that three laptops were stolen from the Eircom offices in Park West, Dublin, over the Christmas period. Worse still, the company also revealed that none of the three laptops were encrypted – even though the company has an encryption policy, reports the Irish Independent.
So what exactly did the crooks get their hands on, we hear you ask? Well, 6,845 eMobile and Eircom customers details, as well as the possibility of 550 customers bank account details was on the stolen laptops at the time. Eircom are currently in the process of contacting those who could be affected, so if you don’t hear from them in the next day or two you’re probably in the clear.
However, we wouldn’t worry too much about the laptops being stolen, because if we think about it logically, the computers were stolen at Christmas and we’re almost into the middle of February.
So if the thieves were after your personal info they would be sitting rich in the Caribbean right now or over in Amsterdam enjoying the… scenery.
Chances are they’ve already been sold for some smack.
