A couple on Channel 4’s The Million Pound Drop Live couldn’t decide what exactly Margret Thatcher said after being elected into office, so they just had a stab at it.

If you were given one million pounds to guess “what did Margret Thatcher say in a press conference after she was elected as the first female leader of the Tory Party back in 1975”, how would you do? What if you were given multiple choices and three of those choices were obviously wrong? Well a couple in the UK managed to lose £300,000 on that very same question.

Firstly, the couple, named only as Steve and Jenny, were asked to choose between two categories: ‘Freedom’ or ‘First Words’. They picked the latter, but little did they know that the question would relate to one of the most prolific British leaders of all time.

The answers that were available to them were, ‘Girl Power’, ‘Fly my Pretties’, ‘Muahahahaha’ and ‘It’s Like a Dream’. Doesn’t seem that hard now does it? And it’s not as if we’re British political aficionados or anything.

But Steve and Jen just couldn’t decide, so with their £675,000 that they had left, they put £100,000 on ‘Girl Power’, £200,000 on ‘Muahahahaha’ and the rest on the right answer.

Needless to say, they lost almost half of their money on a lack of basic history knowledge.
