Kids these days… A Limerick teen was remanded in custody after he showed up for his court date, even though he was on the run from prison at the time.

If you were on the run from the big house, the worst place to show your face would probably be a courtroom. Actually, it’s definitely the worst place to show face. This didn’t faze 18-year-old Christopher Curtin however, who had been on the run from Limerick Prison since Wednesday last.

Curtin “boldly strolled” into the Circuit Criminal Court in Limerick at noon yesterday, according to the Irish Independent, where his case for breaking into a pub last May was about to be heard. Apparently, Curtin plonked himself down beside his family members in a packed courtroom during the hearing. However, a few shocked Gardaí and some legal professionals quickly spotted his mug. No prizes for guessing where they took him next (and it wasn’t to Pizza Hut for their lunchtime special).

Whether Curtin was trying to turn himself in, or whether he was just trying to show how ballsy he thought he was, is still a bit of a mystery.

What’s more worrying about this whole story is that Curtin had an accomplice during his daring run from the slammer. Another man, who is in his 20’s remains at large according to the Irish Independent.

The pair escaped on Wednesday, still in cuffs, after they managed to break free from a prison officer and they made their run for it from the front gates of Limerick Prison.

Curtin was sentenced to two years behind bars. Whether he’ll stay behind them or not is a different story.
