Are you sick and tired of wasting fuel trying to find a ‘cheap’ deal somewhere? Well stop looking, because Pumps.ie is here to do the hard work for you.

When times are tough we all tend to cut back on whatever isn’t too essential, like keeping your car filled to the brim with petrol or healthcare (those were Celtic Tiger times). Nowadays, more and more people are putting their cars on diets and starving them of the fuel they need. Well, if petrol costs roughly 159.9 cent per litre, would you blame them?

So what do you do when it’s time for old Bessie (or whatever your car is called) to go on her liquid diet? Ask your unreliable mates where is cheap in town for fuel? Or do you drive around aimlessly trying to find the best bargain in town? Either way you’re going to end up wasting more precious fuel than you’ll save.

This is why the Pumps.ie app is in an element of its own. In a nutshell, the Pumps.ie app lets users find the cheapest fuel stations in Ireland based on their location. So lets say you’ve come off the boat at Dublin Port and the stations on the Quays are too expensive. All you have to do is open the app and your phone’s GPS locates the nearest station, with their prices, and displays the location on Google Maps. Simples.

The same is true if you’re stuck out on the back roads heading for Belmullet and you’re running low on juice. Open the app and hey presto you’ll have a few different choices on the screen. Once you’ve chosen your preferred station the app will even give you directions to get there. It’s only shy of lifting the nozzle and filling your car for you.

However, it doesn’t just work by using your GPS. If you’re heading home for the weekend and you think petrol or diesel might be cheaper back there then you can still check out the prices. Locations can be found by simply searching your county on the Google Map or by typing a specific location into the search bar.

Once you’ve located where you do most of your driving you can save stations to your watch list for easy reference.

The Pumps.ie app has over 1,800 fuel stations on their database and their website receives over 500 updates on prices from the public everyday. Ok, so we failed to mention that in order for the prices to be kept constantly updated it requires a little bit of work… from you. However, all you have to do is log in your details, send an update on your local station to the app and everyone who has the app will reap the rewards.

There’s some mixed reviews in the iPhone App Store but from what the Android users have been saying, they’re pretty pleased. Also, did we mention that the app is currently free? So it’s a free app that saves you money. What more could you want?
