A group of workers in France must be glad they actually picked up their tools and went to work after they stumbled across €750,000 in gold coins.
When the French aren’t on strike, it seems as though they like to do a bit of office renovation. For a group of workers in Les Riceys (Champagne country), doing the office renovation resulted in them stumbling across nearly 500 solid gold coins.
“One of the workers was attacking the building’s ceiling with a crowbar when gold coins started to rain down on him, followed by sacks of gold,” said Francois Lange, head of Alexandre Bonnet (champagne producers) in Les Riceys France.
The shock find couldn’t come at a better time, as gold prices are currently sky high. Just last year, an ounce of gold was valued at €1,460 and in total, 497 coins were found.
For anyone interested in coins that are as old as dinosaur sh*t, they were minted between 1851 and 1928 and have a face value marking of around €15 each, according to the Irish Examiner.
Lange, the boss man, said he going to keep half of the plundered bounty for himself while he plans on spreading the rest of the wealth with his workers (who actually found the stash). Nice guy.
Although we can only imagine that the ‘rightful owners’ will be looking for their gold now that they remembered that it was lost.
