A group of top ranking Canadians are coming to Dublin next week to seek out thousands of workers willing to ship out to the Great White North.
The delegates, which include representatives of the British Columbia Construction Association, Alberta Construction Association and senior officials from the British Columbian Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Innovation, are coming over to look for people skilled in construction and the related trades.
It doesn’t look like the Canadians will have much time to take in the sights and sounds of this glorious country, as they will be tied up in talks for the majority of their time here.
According to the Irish Times, the delegation will be holding talks with the Department of Trade and Foreign Affairs, the Department of Education and Skills, Fás, the Construction Industry Federation, the Technical Engineering and Electrical Union, the Society of the Irish Motor Industry, the Dublin Institute of Technology and the National Apprenticeship Advisory Committee of Fás. They might be able to squeeze in a Guinness somewhere though.
There are around 335,000 jobs up for grabs in Canada between now and 2014. The workers who are most on demand at the moment are carpenters, electricians, welders, plumbers, heavy equipment operators and millwrights.
So if you haven’t already moved to Australia, then you might want to start looking into Canada.
