Twitter is a place for friends to chat, journalists to spread the word and for randomers to tell you when they’ve taken a sh*t. Now a car is being auctioned on it.
It’s a bit of a strange one but FIAT have launched a new campaign that will see someone in Europe (which sadly doesn’t include Ireland for some reason) walk away with the first FIAT 500 America to come fresh off the lot.
You can only take part if you’re from Italy, Germany, France, Spain, Poland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Portugal, Greece, Denmark, Austria and Sweden. We assume Ireland is being left out because we use right hand drive cars.
The 500 America is a bit of a special car as only 500 of them have been built. Here’s what the FIAT 500 America ‘Twit Bid’ website has to say:
“The 500 America is the new FIAT 500 limited edition totally devoted to the United States, the land of freedom and dreams where the world’s Italian icon, the 500, has recently been launched.
“It is a limited edition. There are only 500 of these 500 America saloon version in the world. And what’s more, each one of them is unique. A highly precious aluminium badge on the pillar bears the serial number – from 1 to 500 – so every car is truly exclusive.”
So what exactly is this Twit Bid lark all about? Well, it’s simple really. You log onto Twitter via the 500 America website and post a tweet with the hash tag #500America. This will place your bid at one euro more than the current bid. However you can also increase your bid by €10, €20 or €50 euro – but only if you happen to live on the continent that is. You better hurry if you do live in ‘Europe’, as the bidding for the no.1 car will end on March 15th.
The winner will walk away with the car marked 1/500 and they will also have their Twitter handle engraved on the car. Good luck to anyone with a stupid Twitter handle (e.g. @I_HeArT_Justin_Bieber_LoNgTiMe).
