A tanker that was seized by Revenue last week was stolen from the Aiken Army Barracks in Dundalk over the weekend. Oh the irony…
Most people would probably assume that leaving a tanker filled with laundered fuel in an Army barracks would be a safe bet, you know, seeing as they have guns and whatnot. However, as we found out at the weekend, it’s not as safe as you’d think.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning when a person broke into Aiken Military Barracks in Dundalk and drove the vehicle filled with fuel at high speed through locked gates like he was some sort of James Bond wannabe.
Apparently, the tanker is still filled with several thousand litres of diesel which was only seized by Revenue in Co. Monaghan last Wednesday, so keep an eye out for anyone trying to shift some dodgy diesel on the cheap.
Thankfully, no one was injured in the break in, but Gardaí have asked anyone with information to come forward.
