Make sure to take it handy on the roads this Bank Holiday weekend, as the Gardaí will be rolling out speeding checkpoints right across the country.

We’re sure that many of you will be dying to get home from work today to enjoy as much of the Bank Holiday as possible, but make sure you get home safe even if it means driving a bit slower.

The clampdown will continue right up until 7am tomorrow morning and is aimed at saving lives over the entire weekend. Speaking to BreakingNews.ie Derek Cloughley from the Garda Traffic Corps said that half of drivers think it is unacceptable to speed, but they are targeting the remaining 50 per cent.

“One thing to remember for all motorists and all drivers, the speed limits are not targets we don’t have to achieve that number,” he said.

“We want people to drive at a safe speed, the message then slow down to save lives.”

Better late than never, as the fella says…
