A new driving game that has taken off with drivers in the West of the country has been condemned as a dangerous and possibly life threatening activity.
Many young drivers are participating in a new game that sees them trying to beat the estimated time of arrival (ETA) on their GPS’s, but it’s causing fatalities in local communities, according to road safety chiefs.
The “beat the clock” game sees drivers taking off as they try to get to their destination before their GPS does. The game is fairly common among young drivers, but it’s not just the kids who are trying to beat the clock like a bunch of wannabe rally drivers.
According to BreakingNews.ie: “middle-aged drivers and some pensioners are also engaging in this game”. Can you imagine your granny racing against a GPS on her mobility scooter? Now that’s a race to bet on.
In all seriousness, concerns are being raised about these time-trial drivers, as new reports show a reverse trend in road deaths out West.
While the rest of the county has seen a decrease in the number of road deaths annually, the West has seen a rise in the number of deaths over the past two years.
Speeding has been noted as one of the most serious factors in these deaths and drivers are encouraged to slow down and just take it handy.
