Picking out a new set of shoes for your motor will be more straightforward come November thanks to a new labelling system.
Picking out new tyres can be a tricky job if you haven’t got a clue about them. You’ve probably had to change at least one tyre on your car before, but did you just look for the right size or did you take anything else into consideration?
You’re probably wondering ‘what else could you possibly look for in a tyre?’ Well, from November 1 you’ll be able to see the tyre’s fuel efficiency (which is its rolling resistance and not how ‘green’ it was to make it), safe braking ability and exterior noise levels. It’s all thanks to a new EU labelling system that aims to make buying tyres a heck of a lot easier.

You can expect to see this sticker on new tyres come November 1
So what exactly are you going to see come November 1? When the new system is introduced, tyre manufacturers will have include a sticker that looks a bit like the energy rating systems that you see on most kitchen appliances.
The grading system starts with A and moves its way down to G for the cheaper, poorer quality models. All three areas of the tyre will be graded separately so the consumer will get an in depth look at what they’re actually buying for their car.
The move is sure to make the market more competitive and it could save you a few pennies too in the long run – if you buy an A rated fuel-efficient tyre that is. With petrol edging slowly towards €2 per litre, we’ll take any excuse for saving a few quid when it comes to our car.
