Country boy Bubba Watson beat off South African Louis Oosthuizen in a playoff at this years Masters tournament to become the latest man to earn a green blazer.

Bubba, 33, comes from a small town called Bagdad located in the far northwest corner of Florida. He has taken the golf world by storm as of late and yesterday at Augusta National he proved to the rest of the world that he has what it takes to be a world champion. Well, once he got the two playoff holes out of the way.

But Bubba isn’t your average player. These days you see young lads coming off the driving ranges and stepping onto the tee box as if they’re a robotic extension of their swing coach. Not Bubba however, as he’s never taken a single golf lesson in his life. He’s pure and raw and that’s why people love Bubba.

He plays what he calls Bubba Golf, a freewheeling, Happy Gilmore style of golf not exactly built for majors. Speaking to the press, Bubba sounded like he was playing the latest version of Tiger Woods PGA Tour for the PlayStation: ‘”I attack; I always attack,” Watson said. “I don’t like to go for the centre of the greens. I want to hit the incredible shot. Who doesn’t?”

It’s refreshing to see someone play the sport who is as grounded and level headed as the rest of us. “The thing is, golf is not my everything,” he said. “If I would have lost today, I wouldn’t be going home to pout. I’m going to think about the great times I had, the chance I had to win.

“I won, so I get to go home and think about that, but tomorrow there’s going to be another tournament, and y’all are going to write about other people. Y’all are going to forget about me tomorrow.”

Not likely Bubba, not likely.
