If you’re doing some home DIY and you’re using a nail gun make sure you don’t do what this guy did. Also, if things do go wrong, make sure you have medical insurance…
While working on a neighbour’s roof, Dennis Hennis (his actual name) was trying to clear a jammed nail gun when he made the rookie mistake of pointing the gun at himself.
Unfortunately for 52-year-old Dennis, once the gun was aimed right at his heart it decided to go off – Murphy’s Law. The nail punctured the right side of Dennis’ heart but thankfully he wasn’t killed.
Mr Hennis, from New Jersey in the States, went into cardiac arrest after the nail punctured his heart and this only made things worse for the hole that was slowly getting bigger as time went on. Attempts were made to airlift Dennis to hospital, however a sheet of thick fog hampered all efforts. Eventually, the fog cleared and he was flown to safety.
Mr Hennis told ABC News: “I’ve done it a hundred times before, just undo it, but it wasn’t going so well.
“I had turned it a little too far and pop, it felt like someone was poking me right in the chest. I thought I was done, I really did.”
The only problem facing Mr Hennis now is the fact that he doesn’t have health insurance, and a medevac to the hospital in a helicopter certainly isn’t cheap.
It just goes to show that even professionals who have been on the job for a number of years can’t always get it right.
Always make sure to take as many safety precautions as you have to whenever you’re doing a bit of home DIY.
