With Irish motorists already feeling the pinch at the pump it has now emerged that the average family looks set to spend €3,000 to fill their car this year.
With motorists already paying upwards of €2,000 (and the rest) for tax and insurance you would be forgiven for being miffed at the fact that this year you’ll burn €3,000 out the rear of your car.
It’s all because of surging oil prices and taxes on motor fuel which have seen a 75 per cent increase since 2009. Back in 2009, when the recession had set in, it only cost the average motorist €142 a month to fill their car.
According to the Godfather of Irish motoring, Conor Faughnan, it’s currently costing you roughly €250 to keep a full tank of gas each month.
Last year was no better, as a months worth of fuel cost the average motorist €235.
Looking at the average price of petrol – which can be done on Pumps.ie – we see that petrol currently sits at 169.9c a litre while diesel currently sits at 159.9c per litre, and it doesn’t look to be coming down anytime soon.
So, if there’s a €3,000 hole in your end of year budget, you’ll know exactly were it came from.
