Researchers at the University of Indiana believe that they’ve found an accurate representation of the average penis size, which is sure to make many a man breath a sigh of relief.
So, have we aroused your suspicion yet? It’s safe to say that most blokes have taken a ruler or measuring tape to their member at least once in their lifetime, out of pure curiosity of course, and whether you were happy (or honest) with your findings is a personal matter. We just hoped you washed your hands after… But the researchers at the University of Indiana believe they’ve finally found the, er, magic number…
14.15 cm (that’s 5.57 inches)
Now, we know what a lot of you are thinking: ‘Surely some of the lads lied about the size of their… eh, lads?’ Well, here’s what the researchers had to say about that: “Although many men may wish their penis were larger and may expend significant effort toward penile enlargement, this does not necessarily mean that men over-report their penile size to researchers.”
So how did the researchers find out about the number while also making sure the lads didn’t lie? Seems pretty hard difficult, right? Well, one of the researchers behind the findings, Dr. Debby Herbenick, told Psychology Today that the men were “incentivised” to be honest.
“Unlike most previous studies of self-reported penis size, [subjects] had good reason to report accurate data to us because we were using their size data to match them to a condom that was sized to fit their erect penis. If they reported a bigger-than-reality size to us, they would get a baggier condom. If they reported a smaller-than-reality size to us, the condom would be too tight.”
So there you have it, some great news… for some of you.
