Have you ever experienced the sights and sounds (and smells) of Amsterdam? Well the next time you go, you may have to do it sober.
A judge in the Netherlands has upheld plans to introduce a ‘weed pass’ which aims to prevent foreigners from buying marijuana out of coffee shops, something that is often regarded as ‘a reason’ to visit the country – by potheads at least.
However, the move has been met with a lot of angry, but somewhat stony, criticism as many people are claiming that preventing foreigners from buying ganja will see a sharp decrease in tourism.
One coffee shop lawyer says he will file an urgent appeal against today’s ruling by a judge at The Hague District court, reports the Irish Times.
The recent ruling clears the way for the introduction of the aforementioned ‘weed pass’ which will come into affect in the southern provinces of the country from May 1 this year.
The ‘no weed for foreigners’ weed pass will come into effect across the whole country from next year, so if you’re planning on heading to the land of weed and hookers you’d want to do it fairly soon.
Not surprisingly, Amsterdam opposes the plan and mayor Eberhard van der Laan says he want’s to come to a compromise.
Well now, that’s a blow (or reef) to all the stoners out there.
