Here we have footage of the Gardaí as they attempt to stop a Travellers’ chariot race along the Cork to Mallow road the other day.
At this stage we’re accustomed to images of travellers having bare knuckle fist fights in the back a*se of nowhere – but a chariot race in the middle of the day on public roads takes things to a new level.
There’s not much information regarding the video but according to the ‘ever-reliable’ commenters on YouTube, only one man was arrested following the race – which wouldn’t be surprising.
As you can see from the road signs in the video the race took place on the Cork to Mallow road – and on both sides of it too.
At one point you can even see oncoming traffic pulling over to the hard shoulder as the two racers and a barrage of supporters make their way down the road.
So, there’s one more thing to watch out for on Irish roads. Maybe the boys in the Department of Transport are getting a graphic designer to work on a “Beware of horse-drawn charioteers” road-sign as we speak…
