Forgetting something? It has been reported today that a whopping €90 million in National Lottery prizes has gone unclaimed over the past five years.

It’s fair to say that it’s been a tough five years for everyone in this country, so if you had your chance to collect a bit of ‘free’ money we’re sure you would have jumped at the bit. However, figures today show that €90 million euro in National Lottery jackpots and prizes has gone unclaimed over the past five years. It’s all coming back to you now, isn’t it?

Last year alone, €17 million in prizes went unclaimed. You can stop your desperate dash to the receipt drawer in case you let a ticket slip in, as winners have a maximum of 90 days after the draw to collect their winnings. So if you do find a ticket down the back of the sofa, chances are it’s gathered more dust than it has interest.

One of the largest unclaimed prizes won last year was a €250,000 ticket, sold in Gorey, Co Wexford, in April, 2011. However, the largest prize to have ever gone unclaimed in our National Lottery was worth a whopping €3.4m. In fairness, that was back in 2001 when €3.4m was considered going out on the tiles money.
