Here’s a homemade Tesla coil gun that is capable of shooting up to 20,000 volts of electricity, which is basically enough to kill someone.
Tesla coils are used for various reasons, most of which are usually scientific. However, one evil genius wannabe has only gone and made his very own DIY Tesla gun. For anyone who’s not up on their science fiction, a Tesla gun shoots lightening.
The ‘mad scientist’ at work here is Rob Flickenger. The self confessed “hacker, writer, and aspiring mad scientist” came up with the idea for a homemade Tesla gun after he read the graphic novel ‘The Five Fists of Science’, in which a young Nikola Tesla and Mark Twain battle Thomas Edison and Guglielmo Marconi, using the likes of a Tesla gun.
Rob’s Tesla gun is actually powered by an 18-volt drill battery and uses a spark gap Tesla coil to make the lightening fly. The body of the gun itself is modelled from a Nerf gun and it’s cast out of aluminium. Sounds simple enough…
The housing for the primary coil and high voltage switch is made out of porcelain, and was 3D printed for that extra unique-appeal. All the power supply is housed in silicone too, so it’s fairly safe – according to Rob.
Now, we wouldn’t go recommending that you make your very own evil genius weapon of moderate destruction, but if you’re that way inclined then head over to Hacker Friendly for all the info.
