Things are looking a little better on the jobs front today as the Government announced negotiations are underway with over 108 foreign companies who are looking at setting up in Ireland.

The good job news comes just after 30 new jobs on the Government’s “finders fee” scheme were announced in Carlow yesterday afternoon. Mayo man Eddie Horkan stood out from the crowd and received a cool €45,000 from the government, all because he put the American engineering company InterGeo in touch with Connect Ireland.

Basically, Eddie managed to help create 30 new jobs in Carlow, so the government decided a little reward was in order. Well, it’s actually thanks to the finders fee scheme that he’s getting anything at all. The finders fee scheme offers a monetary reward to people who convince foreign businesses to set up in Ireland and Eddie is the first person to receive it.

It’s a pretty good idea and it’s sure to get more people trying to convince businesses to set up over here. Sure we’re Irish, we could talk the back legs off a donkey.

Speaking about the money aspect, Eddie said,”To be quite honest that wasn’t the motivator for me.

“I guess the real motivator is that we can make jobs in Ireland, me an ordinary person can make 30 jobs in Carlow and that’s fantastic and I don’t have to do anything I just make a job and it’s that simple.”

Fair play Eddie. If he just do that a few more times, we’d be sorted.
