According to new recommendations due to be published next month, eight TDs will have to start looking for something else to do as they’re being axed.

The Constituency Commission is to recommend changes to the Dáil, which will see the eight seats being lost in Dublin, Munster and Connacht-Ulster. Well, luckily for the TDs, there’s been some major jobs announcements made recently.

When the Commission returns next month with the recommendations, it’s expected to reduce the number of TDs from 166 down to just 158, but is it enough? Do we really need 158 TDs? Well according to them we do.

Overall, a reduction of three seats will be seen in Munster as Kerry, Cork and Tipperary all lose out a seat. Three seats will also be lost in Connacht and Ulster as Donegal, Cavan-Monaghan and either Galway or Mayo will lose a seat.

Two seats are expected to go on the north side of Dublin city, while one seat is expected to go on the south side.

It’s not all bad news for TDs as Laois-Offaly is certain to gain a seat in the revision. The Lord giveth…
