An ice climber over in the US (we assume) had a lucky escape after the patch of ice he was climbing fell from underneath him. No wonder why…

We’re not professional ice climbers here at JOE, but if we were to give the adrenaline fuelled sport a go we certainly wouldn’t start off by climbing up what’s basically a waterfall… and this guy wonders why he almost fell.

Okay, so it’s obviously freezing on that ice wall, but that still doesn’t take away from the fact that the falling water weakens the ice.

Thankfully for the guy in the video, at least two other climbers were above him and they had a rope, which, as you can see, saves the climber’s life. Pretty amazing stuff to catch on camera, wouldn’t you agree?

The ice unsurprisingly falls from under the climber and as we said, but the rope catches him.

So the next time you decide to climb up an icy wall with a stream of water flowing through it, take our advice and just go around it.
