According to a top Lord over in England, celebrity gardeners like Alan Titchmarsh, and Diarmuid Gavin are to blame for all the extra flooding that we’ve seen lately.
Most people would probably agree that there has been quite a bit more flooding over the past few years compared to when we were kids.
You can blame Mother Nature, you can even blame God, however, the British government’s top adviser on climate change and flooding has suggested that celebrity gardeners are to blame. Sounds like someone is clutching at straws.
Apparently, an increase in paved gardens and garden decking can be traced back to TV gardening programmes, like Ground Force, that show homeowners how easy it is to maintain their garden… once they pour cement over half of it that is.
Basically, if you pave over your garden rain won’t be able to soak into the soil like it usually would. Instead, hard concrete surfaces cause water to run off and build up on roads and pathways, causing serious floods.
“We need TV gardeners to tell people not to put down patios and decking and have a lawn instead,” said Lord Krebs.
So the next time you’re knee deep in flood water, you’ll know who to blame…

He knows what he’s done…
