Comeuppance, meet Ajaccio striker Gadji Tallo.

Former Juventus, Lazio, Italy and eh, Middlesbrough striker Fabrizio Ravanelli struck a blow for all football fans who can’t stand simulation in the modern game last night, although he didn’t really have a clue he was doing it.

Ravanelli is currently in charge of French side Ajaccio and he acted quickly during a cup tie against Guingamp last night when he watched striker Gadji Tallo go down with what he and everyone else thought was a fairly serious-looking injury over on the far touchline.

Ravanelli immediately instructed Stefan Popescu to go on instead of Tallo, only to see the Ivorian striker rise Lazarus-like from the stretcher that had just been used to remove him from the field of play and throw a hissy-fit that Ravanelli had the gall to remove him in the first place.

It could be argued that the substitution had a detrimental effect as Ajaccio, who had been winning 1-0 when Tallo was taken off, went on to lose the game 2-1, but in terms of the wider implications and the lesson it could teach to all those fond of faking injury, we reckon even Ravanelli might think it was worth it in the long run.

That’ll teach him.
