Yesterday we heard the news that the Rebel County is looking for it’s own day of celebration, however today we’ve learned that it’s also home to the most divorce prone area in the country.
Cork has given us many great things over the years, like Beamish, Mitchelstown cheese and the word langer. However, newly published figures also show it’s home to the most divorce prone area of the country.
According to the Census Small Area Statistics, the area around Roches Buildings in Cork (found below on the map) has the highest rate of divorce. Fourteen per cent of people living in the area were found to be divorced, whereas the seaside town of Ardmore, Co Waterford is home to the most amount of married people in the country. Seven in ten residents were noted as still being married.
The figures, which were released yesterday by the Central Statistics Office, revealed a number of interesting finds about Ireland in general. Gardiner Street and Sherrard Street in Dublin’s city centre are home to greatest unemployment in the country with six in then residents being out of work.
Certain areas of Ballina in Co. Mayo showed the lowest levels of education in the country as 78-79 per cent of people there had only reached a primary or lower secondary level of education.
There’s loads more info about the CSAS over on the Central Statistics Office website, so head on over to find out more.
