Around seventy people were discovered in Russia recently living underground in a massive bunker without heat or sunlight.

Some religious sects will go to great lengths to keep away from oppression, however, one Islamist sect in Russia took things to the extreme by setting up camp in a massive man-made underground bunker. Prosecutors discovered the sect in the outskirts of the city of Kazan on August 1 and it’s believed that this was the first encounter the sect has had with the public since going into hiding.

The sect included 20 kids with the youngest being just 18 months old. According to prosecutors, many of the kids have never seen sunlight. They also found a 17-year-old pregnant girl and are now looking to see if any of the children were abused in the strange sect.

The group is known as the “Fayzarahmanist” sect and it was named after its 83-year-old organiser Fayzrahman Satarov. He declared himself to be a prophet back in the day – which should have been the first indication that something was up – and set up a massive eight story man made bunker located under a brick house where his followers could live under his strict guidelines.

The bunker was only discovered after police searched the grounds as part of an investigation into the recent killing of a top Muslim cleric.

It just goes to show you never know what’s living under your feet.
