Andrzej Jezierski narrowly missed out on a place in the canoe sprint final today. RTE News reported it like the British press do Andy Murray’s ups and downs.
Andrzej Jezierski was competing for Ireland in the sprint canoe competition at the Olympics this morning. A resident here since arriving in Ireland from Poland in 2005, the former world champion was an outside medal hope and he very nearly made the final, missing out in his semi-final by the smallest of margins.
And when RTE tweeted out the news, they seem to have been inspired by the way that Andy Murray is Scottish when he loses, British when he wins by getting in Andrzej’s country of birth into the 140 characters they had to play with.
