It’s finally happened… All the chatter and speculation will finally come to an end today, as Robin Van Persie looks set to be moving north to Manchester United.

Van Persie was the Premier League’s top scorer last season with 30 goals for his club Arsenal. However, the Dutchman has refused to sign a new contract with them saying he wasn’t happy with the direction the club was heading.

Both clubs released press statements on their website’s last night, with Arsenal saying: “Arsenal Football Club can confirm that terms have been agreed for the transfer of Robin van Persie to Manchester United.

“Van Persie will travel to Manchester on Thursday in order to agree personal terms and complete a medical ahead of the proposed move.”

Sadly, no financial details of the move have been released as of yet, however, it’s believed that the Gunners wanted €28m (£22m) before they’d even think of handing over their captain this early – who, by the way, still has a year left on his Arsenal contract.

Speaking about the move, United midfielder Michael Carrick said, “It is a great boost going into the new season.

“He is a world-class player and we have always been about bringing in players of that ability.

“Can it make the difference between second and first? There wasn’t much difference (last season) so hopefully we can go that step further.”
