A politician from Donegal has come out and blamed RTE for the dwindling tourist numbers in his home county which he believes is due to their ‘pessimistic’ weather reports.
You can blame Ireland’s poor weather on a number of things ranging from our northern geographical location to just simple bad luck. However, one politician from Letterkenny has blamed RTÉ for costing his home county tourists, as he says the RTÉ weather reports give the perception that it’s always raining in Donegal.
Dessie Larkin believes that these pessimistic weather predictions are driving people towards the southwest and southeast of the country. According to Mr Larkin, most local people in Donegal trust the BBC and UTV weather reports quicker than they do with the Irish reports.
“We’ve had a decent summer and it has allowed for some amazing local festivals. But if you were to believe RTÉ, Donegal is constantly awash with rain and dark clouds.”
However, it’s not as if RTÉ are just making up the weather as they go along. An RTÉ spokesperson said that Met Éireann, the national forecaster, actually compiles their weather forecasts for them.
According to the 5-day weather report over on met.ie, today will stay mostly dry in the east with some heavy rain falling in the west and northwest later in the day… which means it’s going to be raining in Donegal later on.
Someone better tell Dessie.
